I’m Dev (they/he), I’m a native Detroiter, I have always found inspiration in my city. As a child, I could sing before I could speak and could find a song anywhere I looked. In the years since I found my calling at Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, I went on to attend the Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME) where I received my BA in Commercial Music Performance studying voice under Kisma Jordan-Hunter and DeAnna Johnson. I am currently studying voice with Dr. Scott Murphree, at my dream school New York University (NYU) Steinhardt, on track to receive a Masters in Music in the spring of 2022.
I have never liked to limit myself in a genre of music, so I sing everything from Classical, Pop, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Country, Gospel, R&B soul, and even Rock. Bringing all the above together, I like to believe I have a sound that is truly unique and is sure to touch the hearts of Detroit, New York and beyond.
In my music and artistry, I have discovered a calling bigger than myself. I am trying to be a voice that is getting louder for Civil Rights movements including racial, feminist, and LGBTQIA+ community. I do my best to live by the words of Jimi Hendrix, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”
